How To Measure For A New Door
Measuring your rough opening:
Measure the opening width from stud to stud (from A to B), at the top, bottom and middle of the door, use the shortest measurement.
Measure the opening height from floor to stud (from C to D), use the shortest measurement.

Measure wall thickness:
For interior doors, from each outside sheetrock to outside sheetrock.
For exterior doors, from outside of sheetrock to outside of exterior siding.


Determining Which Direction Your Door Will Swing


Frank Lumber, The Door Store™ determines the swing of your door as follows:

Stand facing the door. Pulling the door towards you – if the hinges are on the left hand side, it is a left hand swing – if the hinges are on the right hand side, it is a right hand swing.
